Occam Systems
Today we're announcing that Occam Systems has raised a seed round backed by Dauntless Ventures. Why it matters: the world's chemical supply chain is opaque and dangerously brittle where it counts. Closing that gap is exactly the work this capital funds.
Nearly everything the world makes depends on chemistry, yet the systems that source those critical inputs were built for a slower-moving era – opaque and reactive. When a supplier goes dark or a trade route seizes up, most companies only discover their critical dependencies once the shortage hits, and the fixes are ad hoc, stop-gap, and too late. Occam exists to change that: to give buyers, manufacturers, and policymakers the ability to see where capacity actually exists, where it's genuinely constrained, and – when visibility alone isn't enough – to source and deliver the chemistry itself.
We convert supply chain management into supply chain advantage. That's the founding thesis of Occam, and Dauntless is exactly the right partner to back it.
Built from a hard problem
Occam didn't start as a pitch deck. It started as a national-security problem. The company grew out of the synthesis of university-led chemical research and enterprise-scale process development – a combination pointed at one of the hardest questions in the field: how to secure and optimize the supply chains behind critical medicine manufacturing by drawing on latent domestic capacity and mapping production objectives onto an existing supplier base.
That work drew the attention of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which sponsored a seedling project to prove the thesis. The pilot showed the technology was too powerful to stay in the lab, and DARPA backed its move toward commercialization. Soon after, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health extended the capability further, pushing advanced automation directly into virtual chemical process development. What began as a radical idea became a working system – and the foundation of the platform Occam runs today.
That origin also shaped how we've grown. To date, much of Occam's development has been fueled by non-dilutive funding – nearly $15M in government contracts, co-development agreements, and program awards that let us build alongside world-class partners without giving up ownership of what we were building. It's a discipline that kept us close to real problems and honest about real results. This seed round doesn't replace that approach. It compounds it – pairing the credibility of that track record with the speed that private capital unlocks.
“Occam is thrilled to partner with Dauntless as they enhance our commercial network and provide growth capital to pour fuel on the fire of our rapid expansion.”
— James K. Ferri, CEO + Founder, Occam Systems

Why Dauntless
We chose Dauntless Ventures because they see what we see. Dauntless backs founders building the next generation of America's defense and industrial base, accelerating the technologies vital to national and economic security and resilience – dual-use, defense-adjacent, and hard tech, at the point where national resilience meets commercial scale. A resilient chemical supply chain sits squarely in that thesis. They don't treat resilience as a slogan; they treat it as an investment category, and that alignment made them the right partner to back this round, not simply fund it.
“The chemical industrial base that is mission critical to the majority of the global economy looks diversified on paper but is brittle where it counts – at the manufacturing level. Occam gives buyers and policymakers the ability to see where domestic capacity actually exists and where it's genuinely constrained – and, when visibility isn't enough, to source and deliver the chemistry itself. That combination is a critical capability gap, and James and his team, whose technology comes directly out of one of DARPA's hardest and most successful programs, are the ones closing it.”
— Scott Robertson, Managing Partner, Dauntless Ventures
Dauntless is more than a name on the cap table. We see them as a core, long-term partner – one whose networks across the defense and industrial base, and whose conviction about resilient supply, will help us reach the buyers and institutions who need this capability most.
Where we go from here
This round accelerates the mission on several fronts. We'll put the capital toward hardening the platform, expanding the team, and extending our reach into the industries that depend most on resilient chemical supply.
Partnering with Dauntless grows our network into the use cases and stakeholders that matter most to supply chain resilience. We're amplifying our message with our first formal brand launch, extending our reach into new markets with proven commercial leadership, and deepening our bench to support concierge client engagements across both supply chain design and dynamic sourcing.
Our focus has been distributed pharmaceutical manufacturing, and it remains central to our mission. But the same brittleness runs through markets we haven't yet touched – oil and gas; coatings, adhesives, and sealants; water treatment – each one demanding the supply chain resilience we were built to deliver.
The mission hasn't changed, and it won't: to give the makers of the world command of the ingredients they depend on, before disruption forces the question. With Dauntless alongside us, we're moving faster toward it.
More soon. Advantage: you.

The common thread
Whether you're standing up enterprise oversight, designing a new supply chain from scratch, or sourcing what you need this quarter — you're working with the same intelligence, the same command of the molecule, the same advantage.
Different problems. Same answer.
